Exercises in Town Planning

Artists have often been used as tools in the urban redevelopment cycle, improving the perception of an area where studio, workshop, or gallery spaces are affordable, only for developers to move in and ultimately price them out of the area.
Designed in response to the growing number of vacant former commercial premises in Leeds, Exercises in Town Planning gave initiative to artists as town planners to re-design the High Street and prototype a new future. The workshop included speakers from: studio provider East Street Arts, arts organisation Axis and the City Centre Management Team at Leeds City Council.
